Ignatius Piazza recognizes that it seems unlikely a person would survive against being threatened with a gun by a person who is intent on murder. That is why firearms training is so important. Being shot may be unavoidable, but surviving is not.
On January 8th, 2008 Jonathan Brookner shot his wife, Rita Joyce in their home in Connecticut, and then he shot himself. What is surprising about this story is that it not only takes place in the fairly upscale neighborhood of Fairfield, but that there was not a single indication that this was going to happen. Brookner, who wasn’t a student of Ignatius Piazza, suspected that his wife was cheating on him and while he continued his normal daily routine, not letting on what he suspected, he was planning a fatal revenge. Neighbors were shocked, as Brookner does not fit the typical profile of a killer. He was middle-aged, he and his wife both had Masters Degrees in business administration, and he was married to Joyce for twenty years. The couple was well liked by their neighbors and they were often seen walking their dog or barbequing in the backyard in the summer months.
It seems almost impossible that a person would survive such a situation, but that is not a good reason for not trying. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight Training Institute has a course titled Martial Arts Training, where your “mind and body are your best weapon.” Ignatius Piazza and this course teach a person how to use self-defense techniques against both armed and unarmed attackers. This course, offered by Front Sight, is perfect for beginners, and those that have absolutely no training whatsoever in martial arts. Rita Joyce was 56 years old, too young to die, but not too old to learn key techniques of martial arts that would best be used in the face of a barrel.
Ignatius Piazza, the man who created Front Sight, hires only the best instructors for his courses. After being touched by violence himself, he understands that only the best will do and he has very high standards for his instructors. They are not only experts in their field; they are compassionate people and treat their students as individuals.
Ignatius Piazza’s goal when he created Front Sight in 1996 was to empower individuals, whether they were 13 years old or 113 years old, to defend themselves to the best of their physical and mental capabilities. Front Sight is on 500 acres of land in Nevada and incorporates intense and thorough training for those motivated to be prepared for anything. A person need not be walking a dark alley in a scary neighborhood to know self-defense. As the Brookner story illustrates, sadly sometimes it is someone you have known and trusted for much of your life that can end your life.
The point here is not to scare people into hiding. Ignatius Piazza created Front Sight so people can be prepared, to have the edge on a situation that can very well end a life. It is like having that extra $1000 in a savings account, because one never knows what will happen next.
