The Squatter's Law

Greece is very popular country among the buyers of real estate and other property. There are many people in the Europe who have a desire to invest the money into development real estate. The investors form UK win the first place in the world among those people who are interested in such contributions. The most popular places in Greece are Athens, Peloponese, Crete etc. But those people, who have determinate with their wish to buy a house in Greece, have to ensure than they know enough about the local law and requirements for the owners. The main role plays so called Squatters Law.
This law is related with emigration in Greece between 1940 and 1950. The national economy was in poor condition and the people leaved their homes to members of their families or close neighbors and friends.
The second emigration wave took place between 1960 and 1970`s. During this period men from such places as Thessalonniki and Crete moved to German to work in auto industry and manufacture areas.
Majority of such workers did not come back to Greece and they have left their property in trusted hands of their friend and close people from their town or village. Majority of such close people have sold the real estate to the foreigners.
Many years later new law was passed. According to this law those people who can prove that they had a property in Greece, especially real estate, can receive it back. It is legal, but quite complicated process.
But what the new owners of the property can do? They can receive the compensation. There are many lawyers in Greece which specialize in Squatter Law. They receive huge money for their services. But there is also corruption and bribes, as former owners also do not want to loose their property.
